Editorial Co-Director Jason Zuzga notes, “This is an important moment in the history of Fence. We have a remarkable group of editors, diverse literary and extra-literary features online and in print, and a huge base of readers and artists who depend on us. Now we must build an enduring infrastructure to support our expanded programs, pay our editorial staff and the writers and artists published in our pages, and underwrite the features and always surprising, unconventional poetry and fiction that have always been a hallmark of our magazine. Fence will continue to surprise across and between genres.”

The auction will launch with a star-studded online reading on October 6 at 8:00 PM EDT via  Zoom with writers including Wayne Koestenbaum, Mark Wunderlich, Erica Baum,  Jonathan Lethem, Tyrone Williams, Kathryn Davis, and entomologist/essayist Elizabeth  Bernays at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/6748309807 or at the QR code below. Three weeks of bidding will conclude with a second line-up of artists on October 26 at 8:00pm EDT via Zoom.  This event will be headlined by Monica Youn, Harmony Holiday, Sommer  Browning, Angel Dominguez, Lee Ann Brown, Patricio Ferrari, & DA Powell with music By Adam Kinner, Janice Lowe, at the same Zoom address as above.
Editorial Co-Director Emily Wallis Hughes states, “This auction is a pivotal fundraiser for Fence right now. We are relying on it for the printing and shipping of Issue 40, with a new dedicated translation section, and a forum curated by Visiting Editor Edgar Garcia on the question “What’s Wrong with American Poetry Right Now?” Our editors tirelessly read all submissions as we do not have screeners; seasoned writers and first-time published thus find themselves neighbors in our pages. This fundraiser will help to ensure that our staff can be paid for their time and writers and artists for their work.”
