Beachland Ballroom Xiu Xiu Concert Photo1

As part of the FENCE and ESS archive exchange featured in Issue 41, Alyssa is here sharing audio for two concert recordings, made nineteen years apart by Malachi Ritscher and herself. (Note the two songs played at both shows.) The first recording, a 2004 Xiu Xiu live performance recording made by Ritscher in Chicago, comes from the Creative Audio Archive’s Malachi Ritscher Collection. It's supplemented by Malachi Ritscher's track notes for the festival at which the set took place, taken from one of his many recording notebooks. Further below, you can listen to a 2023 recording of a Xiu Xiu live performance made by Alyssa in Cleveland.

Thanks to Experimental Sound Studio for audio and images from the Creative Audio Archive’s Malachi Ritscher Collection; thanks to Xiu Xiu for permission to share the 2023 recording.
